Tax Document Organizer

I designed the tax-document collection experience that reduces the accountant's operational workload.

I designed the flow and built it as a working demo by reusing the codebase. Explore it below.

Context

At Taxfyle, accountants (PROs) spent significant time gathering documents and information from the client before putting together their tax return: requesting documents one by one, asking key questions, going back and forth. That time cost both the PRO and Taxfyle, because the fee depended on how much work each case required. The opportunity: if the client arrives with all their information organized before the PRO steps in, the process is faster, cheaper for Taxfyle and less tedious for the PRO.

PROs were surveyed with Maze about information collection and automation expectations.

Research and documentation of the U.S. tax system to define what to ask, how and when.

Solution

  • A step-by-step form experience where the client fills in their tax information directly, without the PRO's involvement.

  • A flow grounded in real tax logic: the question sequence adapts to the client's profile (personal, business, rental, etc.).

  • A desktop layout proposal with micro-animations to reduce friction in a naturally dense process.
